People began lining up last night outside Bay Area mall stores, to try to score a coveted pair of the new Nike Air Jordans.

The shoes were initially set to go on sale for the first time on Christmas Eve, but the release was pushed up a day in order to let retailers close their doors early, a Nike spokesperson said in a news release.
Coveted by fans, the shoes already have been selling briskly at other retailers, according to posts on the popular social networking site Twitter.
There will be fewer than 50 replica rolex pairs of the $175-shoe available at Nordstrom, employees said.

While there haven't been reports of problems at local stores, an unruly crowd in Sacramento forced Arden Fair Mall store managers to cancel a planned midnight sale, according to a report by the Sacramento Bee.
A crowd of 1,000 apparently rushed mall doors and some pushing ensued.
About 30 Sacramento police and California Highway Patrol officers responded to disperse the crowd.
